Poplar Southern Railroad Corridor

Poplar Southern Railroad Corridor

Public meetings seek community input on railroad crossings

The Memphis Metropolitan Planning Organization is holding a series of public meetings to discuss how the Norfolk Southern Railroad affects those crossing its path.  The limits of the study are from East Parkway to just west of Rossville in Fayette County – approximately 30 miles.  The study area will be divided into four sub-areas.  Sub-Area 1 is from East Parkway to Cherry Road.  Sub-Area 2 is from Cherry Road to I-240.  Sub-Area 3 is from I-240 to the Germantown/Collierville City Limits.  Sub-Area 4 is from the Germantown/Collierville City Limits to the easternmost MPO study limits.  A public meeting will be held within the boundaries of each sub-area.

The purpose of the Poplar Southern / Corridor Study is to identify and analyze the major north/south arterial roadway crossings to determine the most logical and cost effective solutions for minimizing the negative impact and maximizing the positive impacts of the railroad.  The four public meetings will be held at 5:30 p.m. on the dates and locations listed below.  People who live, work or frequently travel in the areas of interest are invited to attend.

During these meetings the public will be asked to:

  • Identify the pros and cons of railroad crossings along the study route.
  • Share how it affects their daily travel routine
  • Voice their opinion about how they would like railroad crossings improved to increase the ease of travel in the city and county.

All meetings will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will end by 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The meetings will be held as follows:
